I realise that, because of the terrible crimes in New Zealand yesterday, our national news has to keep playing the same information over and over. It’s what they do when something terrible happens . One minute of facts and then several hours of assumption, prediction and their opinions of those facts. Enter the talking heads and as much self serving emotional footage as they can muster…then back to another maybe minute of the facts and then repeat it all again.
But in the meantime one of the most important protests in this decade has happened regarding the inaction of global politicians to act in any meaningful way to counter the effects of climate change.
All over Europe, here in Canada and the US, school children in their thousands have walked out of their classrooms to march in the streets. Thousands of children who have had enough of political inaction and lip service compromises in the face of a global disaster. If we don’t listen and learn from their actions, then the world in which they will become adults will be a disaster zone.
If the news networks did their job and allowed enough people to see and hear about these protests then perhaps we as a species would realise that, as one student said today, “Our house is burning and no-one has called the fire brigade”.
I’ve contacted all the news stations (with of course no response) but thought that you might be able to disseminate (Share?) this information? Someone has to before it’s too late. We’re at 0.4 degrees below the tipping point at which it will be too late to do anything for the world, the planet and our species.
I think it’s a disgrace that their efforts are being deliberately ignored by the Canadian media
