Slip slope argument 1: If you vote Green, the Conservatives will get in. But that can only happen if a lot of people don’t vote and those who do vote…vote Tory. So therefore we have to vote. But we are also being told that we must ONLY vote for LIBs or NDP. That pragmatically means that we must only vote AGAINST someone! That our only choice is to vote for someone who has policies that are incidental. Someone who has policies and ambitions that do not really matter! We are voting in a leader because… ” the devil we don’t know MIGHT be better than the devil we do know!”
Yes, political life is a Forrest Gump “Box of Chocolates”, but that doesn’t mean we can’t read the menu on that box and make a decision based on ALL of the choices! We don’t have to vote for someone despite the incidentiality of their policies simply because we don’t want Harper back again! It need not be the same old, same old, in a game that revolves around the limited choices we are offered.
We are not reading the full menu! All we are seeing is the Tories who promise a balanced budget and no deficit by offering more and more austerity and political oppression for the beleagued working people of this country.
We are seeing the NDP who offer a balanced budget and no deficit and claim to support the working people of this country…At the same time as their leader (when he was a Liberal) claimed avowed support for Thatcher’s economic policies. Thatcher, the Iron Lady who threw thirty thousand people out of work one Friday night and then called them “enemies of the state” when they tried to protest!
We are seeing Justin, the self styled hero of the middle class. But Justin believes the term “middle class” means those people who earn over a hundred grand a year! Hmmm… not me I’m afraid, nor most of the people I know…..So how can he represent my interests?
Oh the horror, the horror !
Justin and that man with the beard tell us “It’s time for a change!” I agree, it is time for a change…So how about if we change the political landscape ? If we change the same old, same old, bully tactics and fear mongering of the Lib’s the Tories and the NDP ? How about if we bite the proverbial bullet and elect some Green Party members into the mix?
Will that automatically let the Tories back into power? Actually it will not necessarily do so, despite the desperate propaganda from the other THREE parties. And maybe, just maybe, we will finally have a local representation here on the island that does in fact represent OUR concerns for “a change”. Instead of those of a global economy and the interests of an out of touch and self absorbed Ottawa “Triad” that believes that money can only grow on bitumen and pipelines; instead of on trees, water and a sustainable environment for our grandchildren.
Then, and only then, (whichever party is in power) will Ottawa have to concede, conciliate and compromise to a new and influential voice in the west, one that places the desires and ambitions of the REAL people of Canada over and above the interests of those who would sell our environment, our freedom and the legacy of our children out to the highest international bidder for the temporal glory of their gangland politics…
